Billy Dunn Dominates DIRTcar 358 Series Race at Mohawk International Raceway; Top Five Finish in Super DIRTcar Series Race at Mohawk

Over the past three seasons, Billy Dunn has been virtually perfect at Mohawk International Raceway in the 358 Modified division. He has been the track champion in each of those three seasons and has accumulated 15 feature wins over that stretch at MIR alone. He was back at MIR this weekend for the Mohawk Nationals Weekend, and returned to the Laurent Ladouceur owned #23 on Friday night in the DIRTcar 358 Modified Series and was in his own Number One Speed sponsored car on Saturday night for the Big Block Modified Super DIRTcar Series.

On Friday night, Dunn started the night off with a win in the qualifying heat race, earning a spot in the redraw for a top 12 starting position in the 75 lap main event. Dunn would draw position number six and stared the race from outside of the third row. By lap 10, Dunn had worked his way into the top three and with 20 laps on the board he made his move for the lead. Dunn held the top spot at lap 20 as the first and only caution of the race came out. On the restart Dunn continued where he left off and before long he was working through lapped traffic with ease. Dunn had well over a straightway lead over second place as they hit lap 50 and extended that lead over the final 25 laps to score the victory.

"We've just been really good here all year. We've really hit on a package that, when the track gets slick here, our car really comes to life," said Dunn from Victory Lane. "I was a little worried when we started the race, I thought the track wasn't going to come to us, but right around lap 20 it did. I knew if I could at least get to the front, I would have a good shot at winning. It was an awesome race. We didn't really start where we wanted to, but we just picked our way on through and had a really good car that could go wherever we needed it to. Luckily, there weren't a lot of cautions, and we just cruised to the win."

Saturday was a challenging day at MIR as Dunn and his Big Block Modified Super DIRTcar Series competitors waited out Mother Nature for an opportunity to get the program in. Finally, by 11PM cars were on the track, and DIRTcar Series officials elected to do away with the traditional time trials and heats in favor of a feature lineup based on point standings. Since Dunn had missed a few races in the Series, he would have to start from the 14th position. Dunn exercised patience early in the race, and was sitting inside the top ten at lap 25. Dunn continued to work his way forward and would battle to a top five finish by the time they reached lap 100.

Dunn will be back in action this coming weekend at Fonda Speedway as they host the Big Block Modified Super DIRTcar Series. From there, the team will focus their efforts on returning to Super DIRT Week in hopes of repeating last year’s spectacular performance.

Billy Dunn would like to thank Number One Speed, FastLube of Watertown, Finger Lakes Auto Machine, Glen A. Gould Estate Construction, Frosty’s Ice Cream, and Bicknell Racing Products for their continued support for the 2014 racing season. He would also like to thank Laurent Ladouceur and the Mr. Radiator Race team for the opportunity to race their 358 Modified at Mohawk Raceway on Friday nights again this season.

Billy Dunn Conquers MIR With 50 Lap Frenchie’s Series Win and Earns Third Consecutive Mohawk Championship; 2nd in Points at Canandaigua

There was a lot on the line for Billy Dunn this past weekend, with a huge night in store at both Mohawk International Raceway on Friday night in the Laurent Ladouceur owned car, and back in his own Number One Speed Big Block ride at Canandaigua on Saturday night. It was championship night at both tracks and Dunn was very much in contention for the coveted championship hardware.

Dunn entered Friday night’s events at Mohawk Raceway with a comfortable 32 point advantage, meaning all he really had to do was stay out of trouble and finish the event. Dunn did a lot more than that, as he soared to victory in the 50 lap main event after starting eighth and put an exclamation point on another terrific season at MIR in the Ladouceur owned ride.

“It has been a great run for us, and we have had a lot of fun and a lot of success the past three seasons”, says Dunn. I really have to thank Laurent and his team for allowing me to drive their car each week, and I look forward to coming back here in a couple week with the Mr. DIRTcar Series”.

Dunn was hoping that success would carry over to Saturday night at Canandaigua Motorsports Park. They had a makeup feature from August 16th to run first, and then a double points night booked to finish up the regular season. There were a lot of points available, and Dunn entered the night just 28 points out of the lead in the battle for his first ever Canandaigua track title. A disappointing 12th place finish in the makeup feature all but eliminated Dunn from title contention, and a third place finish in the double points race did advance his position to second in the season long championship battle.

“We were a little inconsistent here this year and it really hurt us”, says Dunn. “We had some mechanical issues and tough finishes over the season, and it proved to be costly in the championship hunt”.

Dunn will be back at Mohawk International Raceway for the Mohawk Nationals Weekend on Friday, September 12th and 13th as both the Big Block Modified Super DIRTcar Series and the 358 Modified DIRTcar Series are in action over the weekend.

Big Weekend Ahead for Billy Dunn With Third Consecutive Mohawk Raceway Championship and First Canandaigua Championship in Reach

As Billy Dunn approaches this weekend as a regular weekend with a busy as usual attitude, it hard not to look at the point standings and look at what could be once this weekend’s championship weekend concludes. Dunn has a healthy 32 point advantage at Mohawk Raceway, and is in the opposite position at Canandaigua looking to make up 28 points as he looks to capture his first championship at that track. Unlike Mohawk, Dunn will have double points on the line in the final feature, and will also have a makeup feature from a couple weeks back to get in as well.

Dunn has had a great season once again in the Laurent Ladouceur owned ride at Mohawk International Raceway, posting three features wins, and only one finish outside of the top five all year long, coming with a mechanical failure on opening night. He will be looking to nail down his third consecutive track title at MIR, and match his three consecutive track titles from 2009-2011 at Can Am.

Dunn has been consistent most of the season at Canandaigua with a pair of feature wins to go along with his solid season in the Number One Speed Big Block Modified. He will have 28 points to make up in order to hoist the championship trophy at the end of the night, but will have the August 16th makeup feature to run first before the qualifying heats, and ending the night with a double points feature.

“It is going to be an exciting weekend, and we are definitely prepared on both ends (Mohawk and Canandaigua). We will give it our best and hopefully it will play out in our favor at the end of the night”, says Dunn. “It has been a good season, and I would really like to thank Dad, uncle Tim and all these guys on the crew that help us out each week at the shop and at the track”.

Billy Dunn Gets Closing in Third Consecutive Mohawk Raceway Track Championship; Seeking First Ever Canandaigua Championship

For the third consecutive season, Billy Dunn has himself in position to win the track championship at Mohawk Raceway, driving the Laurent Ladouceur owned #23 Small Block Modified. Dunn had instant success after taking the reigns of that ride three years ago and he continues to be a dominant force. In his own Big Block Modified car, Dunn is seeking his first ever Canandaigua track title.

Dunn has been consistent all season long at Mohawk Raceway, with the only bad finish coming on opening night when he was sidelined with a mechanical failure. Ever since then, his worst finish of the season was a fifth place result, including a third place finish on Friday night. Dunn now has a 32 point advantage with just two events remaining.

At Canandaigua, Dunn has had a strong season there as well. He currently sits third in points at the track with three feature events to be run, including a make up feature after getting rained out last Saturday night after the qualifying heats had been run. Dunn is only four points back of second place, and just 24 out of the lead.

This coming weekend, Dunn will be back at both weekly tracks looking to score as many points as possible, as he looks to add a couple more track titles to his growing list of accomplishments.

Billy Dunn Gets Second Place Finish at Canandaigua Motorsports Park

It had been a tough couple weeks for Billy Dunn and his Number One Speed race team. After a couple of disappointing finishes on the Super DIRTcar Series due to mechanical failures, Dunn made the decision to opt out of the full series. They also had some motor issues as of late, and were working hard to get things back on track. Mohawk Raceway had a rare Friday night off, but Dunn did have a Thursday night event planned at the all new Weedsport Speedway as well as the usual Saturday night visit to Canandaigua.

Dunn qualified fastest in time trials in his group at Weedsport and backed that up with a heat race victory. He redraw position number 11 in the redraw and fired from the inside of row six. With 40 laps complete, Dunn was up to seventh and was just outside the top five when the race was slowed for a caution on lap 63. With 75 laps on the board, Dunn was now in the top five, but fell back to sixth in the closing laps.

“The car wasn’t too bad here, we just needed to be a bit better”, says Dunn. “I really have to commend everyone for a great job here at Weedsport, they did some great work here and I look forward to coming back next year”.

On Saturday night at Canandaigua, Dunn regrouped after a couple weeks of bad luck and scored a 2nd place finish. He currently sits 3rd overall in the points standings with just 3 events remaining. He is just 27 points back of the leader and only 2 points separating him from second place.

This coming weekend Dunn will return to Mohawk International Raceway on Friday night in the Laurent Ladouceur owned ride and will be back in his own Big Block Modified on Saturday at Canandaigu.

Billy Dunn Makes Tough Decision to Scale Back Super DIRTcar Series Schedule; Focusing on Quest for 3rd MIR Championship and 1st CMP Crown

The past couple weeks have not gone well for Billy Dunn and his Number One Speed race team. Mechanical failures in the two of the last three Super DIRTcar Series events have prompted Dunn and his team to take a step back and focus on their weekly program. Dunn did not make the trip west to Merrittville and Ransomville Speedway for their Super DIRTcar Series races, but will return on Thursday night to the all new Weedsport Speedway.

“We made the very tough decision to not race at Merrittville and Ransomville earlier this week”, says Dunn. “With the bad luck we have had on the series in recent races and the cost involved it is in our best interest to take a step back and look at the big picture. Hopefully this small break will give us a chance to regroup and get back to square one”.

Dunn was back in the Laurent Ladouceur owned #23 at Mohawk International Raceway on Friday night looking for another solid finish and stretch out his point lead as the chase for the championship at MIR heats up. Dunn started his qualifier from the seventh position and rocketed to the front, picking up the win. The 25 lap main event was up next and Dunn rolled off the starting grid from the 14th position. With just six laps on the board, Dunn was already up to the top 10 and he continued to climb forward as the race progressed. The only caution of the race came on lap 21 and Dunn was in the sixth position. When the race resumed, he continued his march towards the front and crossed the finish line in 3rd place.

At Canandaigua Motorsports Park on Saturday night, Dunn was looking to climb back into contention in the chase for the coveted CMP title. He finished the night in eighth place overall and currently sits 3rd overall in the point standings, just 26 points back of first place.

Dunn will be back in action on Thursday night at the newly renovated Weedsport Speedway for some Super DIRTcar Series events, Mohawk International Raceway is off this week, so Dunn will go back to Canandaigua on Saturday night looking to get back to victory lane.

Billy Dunn Posts Third Place Finish at Mohawk International Raceway

After a busy week last week with the regular weekly events and a trip to Quebec for a pair of Super DIRTcar Series races, this week much quieter for Billy Dunn. On Friday night he was back at Mohawk International Raceway in the Laurent Ladouceur owned ride, while Saturday night was a rare off night as Canandaigua Motorsports Park had the night off. The only mid week excursion came on Wednesday night as Dunn resumed the Big Show 6 at Albany Saratoga Speedway after getting postponed a couple weeks earlier.

On Friday night at MIR, Dunn started his qualifying heat from fourth and picked up the win, setting the tone for a good night at Mohawk Raceway in the Ladouceur #23. Billy started from 15th and quickly moved forward and with 10 laps on the board he was already inside the top five. Over the next several laps, Dunn worked his way to third and that is where he finished as the entire 25 lap event went green to checkered.

On Wednesday night, Dunn set off for Albany-Saratoga Speedway in Malta, New York for the conclusion of the Big Show 6 event from a couple weeks back. Dunn was slated to roll off the starting grid from the 19th position as the race resumed where it left off with 11 laps complete on July 8th. Unfortunately, a mechanical issue sent Dunn off the track early and he was unable to continue.

This coming week, Dunn will return to MIR on Friday night, and will be back at Canandaigua Motorsports Park on Saturday night. The Super DIRTcar Series picks up again on Monday with a three race week beginning with Merrittville Speedway on Monday, Ransomville Speedway on Tuesday and the newly renovated Weedsport Speedway next Thursday night.

Billy Dunn Ends Busy Schedule With Third Place Finish in Super DIRTcar Series Event at Autodrome Drummond; Another Win at Mohawk Raceway

It was another busy weekend for Billy Dunn and his race team’s beginning with the usual Friday night at Mohawk International Raceway and Saturday night at Canandaigua Motorsports Park. The Big Block Modified Super DIRTcar Series continued on Monday and Tuesday night at Autodrome Granby and Autodrome Drummond respectively.

For the past two and half seasons, Billy Dunn has unarguably had the dominant car at Mohawk International Raceway, and that continued this past week as he got back behind the wheel of the Laurent Ladouceur owned #23 at MIR. Dunn started ninth in his qualifier and raced his way to fifth place. In the 25 lap main event, Billy started from the 10th position and took off like a rocket in the opening laps. After just five laps, Billy was inside the top five, and was running in third and gaining quickly on the leaders as they hit lap seven. As they approached lap 10, Dunn was in a position to take over the race lead, and did just that one lap later. Dunn went on to score the win at MIR, and now moves into the points lead by just one point entering the final week of July.

Under threatening skies, Billy Dunn and his team made the trip to Canandaigua Motorsports Park on Saturday night. The forecast looked dismal at times, but the Canandaigua staff did all they could to get the show in. The skies opened up one last time just before hot laps were to begin, and racing was cancelled for the night.

The Big Block Modified Super DIRTcar Series was up next as Dunn and his team made the trek to the Canadian province of Quebec for series races at Autodrome Granby on Monday night and Autodrome Drummond on Tuesday. Dunn time trialed third fastest in his group at Granby, and advanced one position in his qualifier to make the all important redraw for a top 12 starting position. Dunn would draw the pole and led the field to the green flag for the 100 lap event. Dunn’s luck quickly changed for the worse, as he jumped the birm early in the race, and cut a power steering line, ending his night early at Granby.

At Autodrome Drummond on Tuesday night, Dunn once again made the redraw with a third place finish in his qualifier. This time around, Dunn would draw the sixth position, and he battled amongst the top five the entire race. With 80 lap in the books, Dunn was in second place, and was soon in a three way battle for the lead. Dunn would cross the finish line with a solid third place finish.

This coming weekend, Dunn will be back at Mohawk Raceway on Friday night, Canandaigua Motorsports Park on Saturday night, and will return to Albany-Saratoga Speedway next Wednesday night, July 30th for the conclusion of the Big Show 6 Super DIRTcar Series race.

Billy Dunn Continues Season of Consistency With Fifth Place Finish at Mohawk and Sixth at Canandaigua; SDS Race at Big Diamond Rained Out

After winning the past two weeks at Mohawk International Raceway and four consecutive top five results at Canandaigua Motorsports Park, Billy Dunn was looking forward to another strong weekend with events at both venues as well as a Super DIRTcar Series race at Big Diamond Speedway in Pennsylvania on Tuesday night.

The first stop on the weekend schedule was the usual Friday night visit to Mohawk International Raceway piloting the Laurent Ladouceur owned #23 Small Block Modified. He started last in his qualifier and raced his way up to a third place result. In the 25 lap main event, Billy lined up from the 13th starting position and made some progress in the opening 12 laps as he made his way into the top ten. As the race progressed without a caution, Dunn continued to move forward with steady progress and with just two laps to go he was in fifth place, and he maintained that position to the checkered flag. Dunn is currently 3rd in points at MIR, just four points out of first in a battle for his third consecutive track championship.

On Saturday night, Dunn was back in his own Number One Speed #49 Bicknell car at Canandaigua Motorsports Park. The night started off with a win in his qualifying heat race. When the 35 lap main event hit the track Dunn finished with a solid sixth place run. After Saturday night’s event, Dunn is 3rd in points at Canandaigua, just 14 points out first.

Billy Dunn and his team were all set to hit the road for Big Diamond Speedway in Pennsylvania on Tuesday morning, but Mother Nature had other plans and the event was cancelled due to rain.

This coming weekend, Billy will be back at Mohawk International Raceway on Friday night, Canandaigua Motorsports Park on Saturday night followed by a trip in the Canadian Province of Quebec with Super DIRTcar Series races on tap for Autodrome Granby and Autodrome Drummond respectively on Monday and Tuesday night.

Wednesday, 9 July 2014

The 2014 racing season schedule continues to intensify as we roll into a busy month of July for Billy Dunn and his Number One Speed race team. They started last Thursday with a Big Block Modified Super DIRTcar Series event at Rolling Wheels Raceway Park in Elbridge, New York, followed by the usual weekend stops at Mohawk International Raceway in the Laurent Ladouceur owned ride, and Canandaigua Motorsports Park on Saturday in his won Big Block car. The busy schedule continued on Tuesday night with a visit to Albany-Saratoga Speedway in Malta, New York for another Big Block Super DIRTcar Series race.

Rolling Wheels Raceway Park took on a heavy dose of rain leading up to their Thursday night event, and that played havoc all night long as they tried to get their Super DIRTcar Series race in the books. They succeeding in getting the show in, but the rain led to rough track conditions and many teams, including Dunn were forced out of the race early.

Friday night at Mohawk International Raceway was a much better night for Dunn. It was round two of the Frenchie’s “Chevy Runs Deep” Modified series. Billy started his qualifying heat from seventh and charged forward very quickly to finish second, making the redraw for a top 12 starting spot in the main event. Dunn would randomly select position number five, and would start the race from inside of row three. Dunn moved forward instantly, and after just three laps he was in the lead and had opened up a commanding lead before the first caution on lap 12. Dunn cruised to his second straight Mohawk Raceway victory.

Dunn’s weekend schedule continued on Saturday night at Canandaigua Motorsports Park and it was a thriller. After winning his qualifying heat race, Dunn started the 35 lap main event from the 15th starting position and was inside the top five as they completed lap 13. Just a few laps later Dunn found his way to second and the battle for the lead was on as the diced through lapped traffic. With the checkered flag in the air, Dunn crossed the finish line with a solid third place result.

The Big Block Modified Super DIRTcar Series resumed on Tuesday night at Albany-Saratoga Speedway for the Brett Hearn promoted Big Show 6. It was a struggle in the early going as Dunn missed a transfer spot by one position in the qualifier. He recovered later in the night to win the last chance qualifier. He started the 100 lap main event from the 22nd starting position and had moved to 19th when the rain came on lap 11. The race will resume on Wednesday, July 30th.

Dunn will return to Mohawk International Raceway this Friday night and will be back at Canandaigua Motorsports Park on Saturday night. The next race in the Big Block Modified Super DIRTcar Series comes on Tuesday, July 15th at Big Diamond Speedway.

Billy Dunn Wins on Friday Night at Mohawk Raceway; Another Top Five Finish on Saturday at Canandaigua Motorsports Park

As the summer heats up, so does the 2014 schedule for Billy Dunn. This past weekend Dunn was back at Mohawk International Raceway on Friday night, Canandaigua Motorsports Park on Saturday, and the Big Block Modified Super DIRTcar Series returned on Sunday as Dunn and his team made the trip to Cornwall Speedway.

On Friday night at Mohawk Raceway, Dunn started his qualifying heat from fifth place, and moved quickly towards the front of the pack. By the end of the eight lap qualifier, Dunn was at the front of the field. Billy hit the track for the 25 lap main event from the fifth starting position and moved forward at the drop of the green flag. The first caution of the race on lap 12 slowed the field, and Dunn had just made the pass for the lead. When the race resumed, Billy set the pace and stormed out to a pretty good lead, but just three laps later the caution was out again, setting up a 10 lap run to the finish. Dunn maintained the lead to capture his first win of the season at Mohawk Raceway.

“The car was real good tonight. We have really been good all year, but had some bad luck earlier this year”, explains Dunn. “I have to thanks the Ladouceur family for letting me drive their cars each week here at Mohawk, and to the entire team for all they do”.

Dunn was back in his own Big Block Modified for the rest of the weekend, beginning on Saturday night at Canandaigua. Billy started the night posting the second fastest overall speed in the opening practice session. After a fourth place finish in the qualifier, Dunn returned to the pit area for some adjustments before the 35 lap main event later in the evening. Starting from the 12th position, Dunn moved forward quickly and was inside the top five with just eight laps complete. Billy crossed the finish line with a strong fourth place finish.

The action moved north to Cornwall Motor Speedway on Sunday night as the Super DIRTcar Series resumed. Dunn struggled to find some speed in the opening practice session, but gained considerably under the clock for time trials, posting the second fastest speed in his group and earning a front row starting spot for the qualifying heat race. Dunn finished the eight lap preliminary event in second place, making the all important redraw for a top 12 starting spot for the 100 lap main event. Dunn selected the fourth position and fired from the outside of row two. Dunn would stay within the top five for the entire race, and crossed the finish line with a solid fifth place finish.

Billy Dunn will have another busy weekend coming up, beginning on Thursday at Rolling Wheels Raceway Park with another round of the Super DIRTcar Series. Dunn will return to Mohawk International Raceway on Friday night for a 50 lap Frenchie’s “Chevy Runs Deep” Series race and back to Canandaigua on Saturday night. The busy week of racing continues on Tuesday as he makes the trip to “The Big Show” at Albany Saratoga Speedway.

Billy Dunn Scores Top Five Finishes at Mohawk Raceway and CMP; Super DIRTcar Series Rained Out at Utica Rome Speedway

The 2014 racing season has ramped up for Billy Dunn and his Number One Speed race team from Watertown, New York. They will continue their weekly schedule of Mohawk International Raceway on Friday night’s and Canandaigua Motorsports Park on Saturday nights and as the summer arrives, the Big Block Modified Super DIRTcar Series schedule kicks into high gear.

After an eighth place finish in the Big Block Modified Super DIRTcar Series race at New Egypt Speedway earlier in the week, Dunn returned to Mohawk International Raceway on Friday night for only the second time in 2014 for the Modified division after multiple rainouts have slowed the season. There was no sign of rain on Friday night as Dunn cruised to victory in his qualifying heat race. He started the 25 lap feature from the front row, and looked poised for his first MIR win of the season in the opening laps, as he built up a commanding half track lead over second place in his Laurent Ladouceur owned ride.. The first caution of the race came on lap 12, and this changed the complexion of the race. Dunn lost the lead on the restart, and would settle into the second position for the remainder of the event.

“The car was great early, but once the caution came out we just weren’t as strong”, admits Dunn after the race. “We will be back next week, and hopefully we will be able to close the deal and get a win here at MIR”.

Dunn was back in his traditional Number One Speed Big Block on Saturday night at Canandaigua Motorsports Park. After a fifth place finish in his qualifier, Dunn returned to his pit area for some changes before the 35 lap main event. He rolled off the starting grid from the 13th position and found his way inside the top ten after just six laps. Dunn continued to make a steady climb up the leader board and was in third place as they reached lap 22. Over the final few laps, Dunn’s car seemed to go away, and he slid back to finish in fifth place.

This coming week is going to be very busy for Billy Dunn. He was going to be back behind the wheel Wednesday night as the Big Block Modified Super DIRTcar Series was to invade Utica Rome Speedway but that has since been cancelled. Friday and Saturday night will feature the usual visits to Mohawk International Raceway and Canandaigua Motorsports Park before getting back to more Super DIRTcar Series racing on Sunday at Cornwall Motor Speedway.

Billy Dunn Grabs Top Five Finish on Saturday Night at Canandaigua Motorsports Park; Mohawk Raceway Continues to Battle Mother Nature

Last weekend was a disappointing weekend for Billy Dunn and his Number One Speed team and they were back this week ready to put that behind them. Mohawk Raceway was the destination of Friday night driving the Laurent Ladouceur owned 358 Modified, while Saturday night at Canandaigua he was back in the familiar Number One Speed #49.

Like most Friday night’s this year, rain was an issue. It didn’t take track officials long to cancel the program once again with a continuous steady rain falling overnight and through the morning. They will try again this coming Friday night, and will also look at an added mid-week event next month to help make up for some of the rainouts this season.

Canandaigua was up next on Saturday night and Dunn started the 35 lap main event from the 16th starting position. In typical Dunn fashion he moved towards the front of the pack patiently and by the end of the race he was in a top five position. Dunn crossed the finish line with a strong fifth place result.

“The car wasn’t bad, and we were able to move up from deep in the field, but we just weren’t quite strong enough tonight to challenge for the win”, says Dunn after the race. “We will work at it, and hopefully we can be even better next week”.

Dunn will be back in action on Tuesday night as the Big Block Modified Super DIRTcar Series rolls into New Egypt Speedway in New Jersey. He will be at Mohawk International Raceway on Friday night and back to Canandaigua Motorsports Park on Saturday.

Billy Dunn Continues Strong Start in 2014 With Another Top Five Finish at Canandaigua Motorsports Park; Mechanical Failure Sidelines Dunn at MIR

After picking up his second win of the season at Canandaigua Motorsports Park the previous weekend, Billy Dunn was looking forward to getting back to the track and continuing his early season success. He had events on the schedule last week at Brockville Speedway on Wednesday night for the opening race in the Big Block Modified Super DIRTcar Series, followed by the rescheduled opening night at Mohawk Raceway before returning to Canandaigua once again to finish out the weekend.

The Big Block Modified Super DIRTcar Series got underway at Brockville Speedway last Wednesday night. Dunn started the night with a second place finish in his qualifying heat race, making the redraw for the 100 lap main event. Dunn would select position number 12. It didn’t take long for Dunn to move his way forward, and by lap 10 he was up to sixth place. Dunn moved into the top five just a few laps later and as the race hit the halfway point, he continued to ride in the fifth position. As race was nearing the end, the handling began to fade on Dunn’s Number One Speed sponsors Big Block, and he slowly slipped back and finished the race in ninth place.

On Friday night, Dunn was back in the Laurent Ladouceur owned car at Mohawk International Raceway after consecutive rainouts to start the season. Billy started his qualifying heat race from third and quickly proved to be a dominant car by winning the 10 lap qualifier. A redraw determined the top 12 positions for the start of the 50 lap event, and Dunn would draw the pole position and quickly took off from the front row spot. Dunn appeared to be on a mission early, opening up a commanding lead until a mechanical issue sidelined Dunn after just six laps.

Canandaigua Motorsports Park was up next on Saturday night and Dunn would have to start the 35 lap main event from deep in the field due to the standard handicapping process. Dunn charged through the field steadily, and found his way to the top five and began to chase down the race leaders in the closing laps. Over the final few circuits Billy was locked into a fierce battle for the runner-up spot as the final laps counted down. Dunn would settle for a fourth place finish, increasing his point lead to 28 points as of June 1st.

This coming weekend, Dunn will have Friday night off as the Modifieds are not on the schedule at Mohawk International Raceway this week. He will return to action on Saturday at Canandaigua Motorsports Park, and will also be at Canandaigua on Wednesday, June 11th for a mid-week special event. The next race in the Big Block Modified Super DIRTcar Series comes on Tuesday, June 17th at New Egypt Speedway in New Jersey.

Dunn was also scheduled to be back at Mohawk International Raceway on Friday night for their opening night behind the wheel of the Laurent Ladouceur owned car.

The forecast all week called for rain on Friday night, and that is exactly what we received. Heavy rains forced Mohawk Raceway track officials to cancel their opening night program.

In the qualifying heat race, Dunn started from the sixth position and quickly moved forward to finish in second. With 31 laps complete, Dunn had worked his way into the top five, and proceeded to gain two more positions as the final laps counted down.

“The car was pretty good tonight”, says Dunn. “We were able move forward pretty good the entire race. I have to thank the guys on the crew and all of our sponsors for their support. I also want to congratulate Matt and Dean (Billings) on their first win here at Canandaigua. This is a tough place to race with the competition here, and I am real happy for them”.
