Billy Dunn Makes Tough Decision to Scale Back Super DIRTcar Series Schedule; Focusing on Quest for 3rd MIR Championship and 1st CMP Crown

The past couple weeks have not gone well for Billy Dunn and his Number One Speed race team. Mechanical failures in the two of the last three Super DIRTcar Series events have prompted Dunn and his team to take a step back and focus on their weekly program. Dunn did not make the trip west to Merrittville and Ransomville Speedway for their Super DIRTcar Series races, but will return on Thursday night to the all new Weedsport Speedway.

“We made the very tough decision to not race at Merrittville and Ransomville earlier this week”, says Dunn. “With the bad luck we have had on the series in recent races and the cost involved it is in our best interest to take a step back and look at the big picture. Hopefully this small break will give us a chance to regroup and get back to square one”.

Dunn was back in the Laurent Ladouceur owned #23 at Mohawk International Raceway on Friday night looking for another solid finish and stretch out his point lead as the chase for the championship at MIR heats up. Dunn started his qualifier from the seventh position and rocketed to the front, picking up the win. The 25 lap main event was up next and Dunn rolled off the starting grid from the 14th position. With just six laps on the board, Dunn was already up to the top 10 and he continued to climb forward as the race progressed. The only caution of the race came on lap 21 and Dunn was in the sixth position. When the race resumed, he continued his march towards the front and crossed the finish line in 3rd place.

At Canandaigua Motorsports Park on Saturday night, Dunn was looking to climb back into contention in the chase for the coveted CMP title. He finished the night in eighth place overall and currently sits 3rd overall in the point standings, just 26 points back of first place.

Dunn will be back in action on Thursday night at the newly renovated Weedsport Speedway for some Super DIRTcar Series events, Mohawk International Raceway is off this week, so Dunn will go back to Canandaigua on Saturday night looking to get back to victory lane.

Billy Dunn would like to thank Number One Speed, FastLube of Watertown, Finger Lakes Auto Machine, Glen A. Gould Estate Construction, Frosty’s Ice Cream, and Bicknell Racing Products for their continued support for the 2014 racing season. He would also like to thank Laurent Ladouceur and the Mr. Radiator Race team for the opportunity to race their 358 Modified at Mohawk Raceway on Friday nights again this season.
