The 2014 racing season has got off to a slow start, as Billy Dunn and his team has battled Mother Nature more than they have battled on the track with their competition. After two consecutive weekends of rain at Canandaigua, they were finally able to return to the track on Saturday night and resume the season. Dunn had a second place finish on opening night, and they were looking to finish just one spot higher this time around.
Dunn started the 35 lap main event from the 17th position, but he quickly moved through the pack. For several laps, Dunn battled for the top spot, racing side by side fighting for the lead in the closing laps of the race. With five laps to go, Billy started to pull away to victory.
“The car was almost perfect tonight”, says Dunn. “We are off to a good start so far this season, so hopefully we can keep it up all year.
This coming weekend, Dunn will be back behind the wheel of the Laurent Ladouceur owned car at Mohawk International Raceway. Dunn is the two time defending track champion at MIR driving for the Ladouceur team, and will be looking to get off to a strong start. On Saturday night, Billy will be back in his Number One Speed Big Block at Canandaigua Motorsports Park.
The first race in the Big Block Modified Super DIRTcar Series will take place on Wednesday, May 28th at Brockville Speedway.
Billy Dunn would like to thank Number One Speed, FastLube of Watertown, Finger Lakes Auto Machine, Glen A. Gould Estate Construction, Frosty’s Ice Cream, and Bicknell Racing Products for their continued support for the 2014 racing season. He would also like to thank Laurent Ladouceur and the Mr. Radiator Race team for the opportunity to race their 358 Modified at Mohawk Raceway on Friday nights again this season.
