Billy Dunn Ends Busy Schedule With Third Place Finish in Super DIRTcar Series Event at Autodrome Drummond; Another Win at Mohawk Raceway

It was another busy weekend for Billy Dunn and his race team’s beginning with the usual Friday night at Mohawk International Raceway and Saturday night at Canandaigua Motorsports Park. The Big Block Modified Super DIRTcar Series continued on Monday and Tuesday night at Autodrome Granby and Autodrome Drummond respectively.

For the past two and half seasons, Billy Dunn has unarguably had the dominant car at Mohawk International Raceway, and that continued this past week as he got back behind the wheel of the Laurent Ladouceur owned #23 at MIR. Dunn started ninth in his qualifier and raced his way to fifth place. In the 25 lap main event, Billy started from the 10th position and took off like a rocket in the opening laps. After just five laps, Billy was inside the top five, and was running in third and gaining quickly on the leaders as they hit lap seven. As they approached lap 10, Dunn was in a position to take over the race lead, and did just that one lap later. Dunn went on to score the win at MIR, and now moves into the points lead by just one point entering the final week of July.

Under threatening skies, Billy Dunn and his team made the trip to Canandaigua Motorsports Park on Saturday night. The forecast looked dismal at times, but the Canandaigua staff did all they could to get the show in. The skies opened up one last time just before hot laps were to begin, and racing was cancelled for the night.

The Big Block Modified Super DIRTcar Series was up next as Dunn and his team made the trek to the Canadian province of Quebec for series races at Autodrome Granby on Monday night and Autodrome Drummond on Tuesday. Dunn time trialed third fastest in his group at Granby, and advanced one position in his qualifier to make the all important redraw for a top 12 starting position. Dunn would draw the pole and led the field to the green flag for the 100 lap event. Dunn’s luck quickly changed for the worse, as he jumped the birm early in the race, and cut a power steering line, ending his night early at Granby.

At Autodrome Drummond on Tuesday night, Dunn once again made the redraw with a third place finish in his qualifier. This time around, Dunn would draw the sixth position, and he battled amongst the top five the entire race. With 80 lap in the books, Dunn was in second place, and was soon in a three way battle for the lead. Dunn would cross the finish line with a solid third place finish.

This coming weekend, Dunn will be back at Mohawk Raceway on Friday night, Canandaigua Motorsports Park on Saturday night, and will return to Albany-Saratoga Speedway next Wednesday night, July 30th for the conclusion of the Big Show 6 Super DIRTcar Series race.

Billy Dunn would like to thank Number One Speed, FastLube of Watertown, Finger Lakes Auto Machine, Glen A. Gould Estate Construction, Frosty’s Ice Cream, and Bicknell Racing Products for their continued support for the 2014 racing season. He would also like to thank Laurent Ladouceur and the Mr. Radiator Race team for the opportunity to race their 358 Modified at Mohawk Raceway on Friday nights again this season.
