Billy Dunn Gets 10th Win of the 2012 Season After Winning Mr. DIRTcar 358 Modified Series Race at Mohawk International Raceway

The 2012 season has been a breakthrough season for Billy Dunn and it just keeps on getting better. After claiming the Mohawk International Raceway 358 Modified track championship and Frenchie’s “Chevy Runs Deep” 358 Modified Track Championship just two weeks ago, he returned to the track once again this week as the Big Block Modified Super DIRTcar Series and 358 Modified Series were both in action this weekend.

Dunn was looking for familiar track advantage in the Super DIRTcar Series on Friday night. He timed fourth in his group in time trials and would have to start fourth in his qualifying heat race. Just after time trials had ended, the rain started, and would eventually postpone the program to Saturday. When racing resumed on Saturday afternoon, Dunn ran a strong race, taking the win, making the redraw for a top 12 starting spot for the 100 lap feature. Billy selected starting spot number nine, and lined up from the inside of row five. Over the opening 25 laps Dunn had moved up to seventh, but when the caution came out on lap 36 he made a quick pit stop and rejoined the field for the restart from the rear of the field. With 73 laps in, the caution was out for a few raindrops and Dunn had raced his way back up to 11th place. The race resumed and Billy continued to move forward getting back up to where he was before the pit stop and finishing with a seventh place result.

With Friday night’s portion of the events complete, Their was a two-hour break as teams prepared for the 358 Modified DIRTcar Series race. Right from the beginning, Dunn was the fastest car on the track, earning quick time overall in time trials. He backed that up with a win in his qualifying heat race. In the 75 lap main event, Billy started from 11th place and took over the top spot on lap 28 and led the remaining laps.

"I had to work hard for this one”, said Dunn after the race. The track locked down a little toward the end and once I got the lead it was just tire management, trying to keep the car straight. It has been an awesome year for us, and hopefully we can keep this momentum going through Super DIRT Week”.

With a couple week off now until Super DIRT Week, Dunn will be working hard in the shop preparing both the Big Block Modified and his 358 Modified for an action packed weekend schedule at the New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse.

Dunn would like to thank Number One Speed, FastLube of Watertown, SUNY Canton, Frosty’s Ice Cream, American Traditions Motorsports, Finger Lakes Auto Machine, Jiffy Dumpster and Bicknell Racing Products for their continued support for the 2012 racing season.
