Billy Dunn Gets Strong Third Place Finish on Saturday Night at Canandaigua Motorsports Park; Mohawk Raceway to Begin This Weekend

After picking up his first win of the young 2014 season last weekend at Canandaigua Motorsports Park, Billy Dunn and his Number One Speed race team were looking forward to getting back in action and trying to make it two wins in a row at the ‘Land of Legends’. Dunn was also scheduled to be back at Mohawk International Raceway on Friday night for their opening night behind the wheel of the Laurent Ladouceur owned car.

The forecast all week called for rain on Friday night, and that is exactly what we received. Heavy rains forced Mohawk Raceway track officials to cancel their opening night program.

Billy and his team finished their preparations for Canandaigua Motorsports Park, and made their way to the track early in the afternoon. They were fast right from the beginning, posting the second fastest speed in the opening practice session. In the qualifying heat race, Dunn started from the sixth position and quickly moved forward to finish in second. The 35 lap main event was up next, and Dunn fired from the 17th position and patiently moved forward. By lap 11, he has inside the top 10, and continued to move up the leader board as the race progressed. With 31 laps complete, Dunn had worked his way into the top five, and proceeded to gain two more positions as the final laps counted down.

“The car was pretty good tonight”, says Dunn. “We were able move forward pretty good the entire race. I have to thank the guys on the crew and all of our sponsors for their support. I also want to congratulate Matt and Dean (Billings) on their first win here at Canandaigua. This is a tough place to race with the competition here, and I am real happy for them”.

This coming weekend, Dunn will be back behind the wheel of the Laurent Ladouceur owned car at Mohawk International Raceway for the first time in 2014. Dunn is the two time defending track champion at MIR driving for the Ladouceur team, and will be looking to get off to a strong start. Dunn is the defending champion of the Memorial Cup event, and also defending track champ, and Frenchie’s Series champion. On Saturday night, Billy will be back in his Number One Speed Big Block at Canandaigua Motorsports Park.

The first race in the Big Block Modified Super DIRTcar Series will take place next Wednesday, May 28th at Brockville Speedway.

Billy Dunn would like to thank Number One Speed, FastLube of Watertown, Finger Lakes Auto Machine, Glen A. Gould Estate Construction, Frosty’s Ice Cream, and Bicknell Racing Products for their continued support for the 2014 racing season. He would also like to thank Laurent Ladouceur and the Mr. Radiator Race team for the opportunity to race their 358 Modified at Mohawk Raceway on Friday nights again this season.

Billy Dunn Captures First Win of 2014 with Strong Performance at Canandaigua; Mohawk Raceway to Open This Friday Night

The 2014 racing season has got off to a slow start, as Billy Dunn and his team has battled Mother Nature more than they have battled on the track with their competition. After two consecutive weekends of rain at Canandaigua, they were finally able to return to the track on Saturday night and resume the season. Dunn had a second place finish on opening night, and they were looking to finish just one spot higher this time around.

Dunn started the 35 lap main event from the 17th position, but he quickly moved through the pack. For several laps, Dunn battled for the top spot, racing side by side fighting for the lead in the closing laps of the race. With five laps to go, Billy started to pull away to victory.

“The car was almost perfect tonight”, says Dunn. “We are off to a good start so far this season, so hopefully we can keep it up all year.

This coming weekend, Dunn will be back behind the wheel of the Laurent Ladouceur owned car at Mohawk International Raceway.
